Our Story

Spinney Hill Drugs, Alcohol and Addiction Support was established in order to help address the growing number of people from within our communities that are developing, or have already developed, an addiction to drugs and/or alcohol.
Unfortunately, drug use has been common within our communities for many years, However, in recent times there has been a difference in the types of drugs being consumed. Whereas, historically, individuals consumed ‘soft’ drugs like Cannabis, more recently Class A drugs such as Cocaine and Heroin have become more common.
We noticed that many of those who started taking drugs/alcohol recreationally were, over time, going on to become addicted to these substances. And once addiction takes hold, lives can unravel very quickly. Addicts can find it increasingly difficult to maintain jobs, manage their finances, sustain relationships and stay out of the criminal justice system.
Recognising this, some addicts have reached out for help. However they found the existing support on offer, via commissioned drug support agencies, was not always able to meet their needs, and so they would often retreat back into their drug use, leading to a further spiral of depression, petty crime and, in some cases, suicide.
This led us on a journey to establish a confidential, community based, culturally sensitive, Drugs and Alcohol support service and hence Spinney Hill was born.

About us

The Spinney Hill Drugs, Alcohol and Addiction Support is a pioneering initiative which has been set up to specifically focus on addressing issues around drug and alcohol misuse. We will be providing information, advice and support to young people and adults, as well as concerned family and friends.
We have close links with specialist agencies within the substance misuse community and, if required, can signpost clients for further intervention.
In addition, we aim to try and reduce risks by working closely with the wider community, as well as both statutory and voluntary organisations, by raising awareness of alcohol and substance misuse.
It is vitally important to assure all service users that we treat all information in the strictest confidence. Information is secured under data protection guidelines and we have a policy for users wishing to access information held about them.
We endeavour to try and meet religious, cultural, and language needs.
